Mark Ingram - Heisman Winner

In 1935, a halfback by the name of Jay Berwanger won the first ever Heisman Trophy. 73 more players would accept this award before a single Alabama player would get the nod. Mark Ingram is that player.

Ingram joins the most exclusive club in college football. A club with names like Pete Dawkins (Army 1958), Ernie Davis (Syracuse 1961), Roger Staubach (Navy 1963), Steve Spurrier (Florida 1966), Pat Sullivan (Auburn 1971), Tony Dorsett (Pittsburgh 1976), Marcus Allen (USC 1981), Herschel Walker (Georgia 1982), Doug Flutie (Boston College 1984), Bo Jackson (Auburn 1985), Barry Sanders (Oklahoma 1988), Eddie George (Ohio State 1995), and Sam Bradford (Oklahoma 2008).

Congratulations to Mark Ingram for winning the most prestigious award in college football.

Little known fact: In 1966, Steve Spurrier relinquished his Heisman trophy to the university president so that the award could be shared by the Florida students and faculty. The gesture caused Florida's student government to raise funds to purchase a replacement for Spurrier. From that point on, two trophies have been issued each year: one to the school and one to the individual.
