The 78th Annual Academy Awards...

...finally got it right. I might not have seen every movie that came out in 2005, but I saw Crash, and it was truly one of the most powerful movies that I have ever seen. I've not seen Capote, but the clips show Phillip Seymour Hoffman as a dead-ringer. I was a little shocked by hearing Reese Witherspoon's name announced last night. I started remembering films such as Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, and Pleasantville. Then I remembered a little film called The Man in the Moon, which came out in 1991 (Witherspoon was 14). Another great one: Cruel Intentions. I got a little confused when Dr. Doug Ross accepted an award. Didn't see that one coming. Memoirs of a Geisha swept all of the artsy awards: Costume Design, Cinematography, and Art Direction. Brokeback Mountain didn't do quite as well as everyone thought, winning for Adapted Screenplay, Original Score and winning Ang Lee Best Director (I'm sure it was a difficult job, considering). King Kong won some technical awards, but Crash won the Mac-Daddy of them all, Best Picture 2005, along with Editing and Original Screenplay.
